This is the story of my experience with the Dutch tourists I brought, exploring Osing village in East Java.
That day, the sun shone brightly illuminating the vast expanse of green rice fields. I, along with my guests from the Netherlands, were excited to start our journey to Kampung Osing or Osing villge, a traditional village which is famous for its unique culture and natural beauty.
Journey to Osing Village
We departed from Paltuding after climbing the Ijen Crater. Paltuding is the entrance to the Ijen Crater.we drive to the village until enter to country side.
The further we entered, the more rural the atmosphere became. Coffee and clove plantations line the road. Occasionally, we passed groups of children playing on the side of the road. After traveling for about an hour, we finally arrived at a gate that said “Welcome to Osing Village”. A different atmosphere was immediately felt. Traditional houses with distinctive architecture and friendly residents welcomed us.
We decided to hire a local guide to explore the Osing village. Our guide, Pak Sam, patiently explained the history, customs and daily life of the Osing people. We were invited to visit traditional houses, watch ten ikat being made, and even take part in traditional dances. One of the most interesting things is the Tumpeng Sewu traditional ritual. We were lucky to be able to witness firsthand the process of making small tumpeng made from colorful sticky rice. According to Pak Sam, this ritual is an expression of gratitude to the Creator for all the gifts he has been given. In the afternoon, we decided to enjoy the natural beauty around Osing Village. We walked along the river with clear water while enjoying views of the green rice fields. The calm and peaceful atmosphere made us feel very relaxed.
The tiredness felt after climbing to the Ijen Crater seemed to disappear instantly. Oh yes, I forgot to tell you something. We also stopped at a traditional coffee shop with manual preparation such as brewed coffee typical of Osing village. Hopefully this story inspires you to visit Osing Village. Have a good adventure.
