Bromo and Ijen : Epic Volcanic Adventure in East Java. East Java, Indonesia, is a province located in the east of the island of Java, bordering the island of Bali. Kawah Ijen with Blue Fire Phenomena
Ijen Crater : A rare blue fire phenomenon that only exists in 2 places in the world. This blue fire is produced by the combustion of sulfur gas that comes out of the cracks in the rocks in the crater. This phenomenon can only be seen at night, so climbers must start climbing early in the morning around 1 am.
In addition to the blue fire, Ijen Crater also has a crater lake that is bluish green. This color is caused by the high sulfuric acid content in the lake. Traditional sulfur miners can also be found around the crater, carrying chunks of sulfur from their mining.
I recommend that all travelers who will climb the Ijen crater to hire a local guide. The local guide will assist you during the climb and provide information about the location of the blue fire source.
