A simple journey

A simple journey but meaningful

A simple journey with schoolmate. There is something special about traveling with old friends. Especially those who have been part of your life since junior hight school. This journey was not just about visiting places, but about reliving memories and creating new ones before everyone returned their busy lives.

A simple journey
Balloon festival in Wonosobo

Our day started very early as we headed to Wonosobo Central Java. We proudly left at 5 am thinking we were the most prepared and punctual group ever. Only to find out that we were, actually late, hahaha.

Yes, despite our early start, we somehow missed the main moment of the hot air ballon festival. Apparently the balloons had already taken off before we arrived. It turns out, walking up early doesn’t guarantee success if you don’t have the right information. We laughed at ourselves, joking that we were early in spirit but late in reality.

Still we were lucky enough to catch a few remaining balloons floating in the sky. And honestly the laugher we shared about our great timing made the moment even more memorable than if everything had gone perfectly.

A simple journey : learning traditional in Magelang

After leaving Wonosobo, Central Java we continued our journey to Magelang, Central Java. Here, we experienced something truly authentic: the process of making gula jawa (palm sugar).

The process of making palm sugar

We watched how local people carefully cook coconut sap over a wood fire, stirring it patiently until it thickens and turns into rich, brown sugar. The aroma was sweet and comforting. It reminded us how simple traditions carry deep cultural value. Some of us even tried shaping the sugar molds—it was harder than it looked, but full of laughter.

A relaxing lunch in Nanggulan Yogyakarta.

a simple journey

By midday, we arrived in Nanggulan for lunch. Surrounded by rice fields and fresh air, we enjoyed a simple but delicious meal together. The atmosphere was peaceful, and for a moment, time felt slower.

We talked about everything—our school days, funny memories, and how life had changed since then. Even though everyone now lives in different cities, nothing really felt different when we sat together like this.

The final gathering.

As the day came to an end, we gathered again at home. This was perhaps the most meaningful part of the journey. No sightseeing, no schedule—just conversations, laughter, and silence filled with understanding.

Today marked the last day of their Eid holiday. Tomorrow, they would return to Semarang and other cities to continue their work and responsibilities. There was a quiet feeling in the air—part happiness, part sadness.

We didn’t say goodbye in a dramatic way. Instead, we smiled, joked, and promised to meet again. Because deep down, we all knew that friendships like this don’t fade with distance or time.
