The Sikidang crater

Have you ever visited the Sikidang crater? If not, you should visit at least once in your life. Sikidang crater is located in the highland tourist area of Central Java. This crater has a unique geothermal activity with hot steam and gas coming out of the ground.

The high temperature that comes out of the crater is used for steam power plants. Actually there are several craters around the Dieng plateau, but only the Sikidang crater is always crowded. This crater is surrounded by beautiful plantations and rice fields owned by local residents. According to my understanding, this crater is getting bigger every year.

It is highly recommended for anyone who visits this crater to wear a mask. The very pungent smell of sulfur may disturb your breathing and your time while enjoying the natural beauty there. If you want to be comfortable here, come when the holiday season is over. It’s better to come in the summer, because if it’s the rain season, the rain intensity is usually high in the Dieng plateau area.

Besides visiting this crater, you can also enjoy other places such as lake and temples. If you want to see the sunrise, you can stay in the Dieng plateau area. So in the morning you don’t have to wake up early to see the sunrise. There are so many lodging here, starting from homestay to expensive hotels. For me the air here is quite cold, maybe around 7 degrees. Maybe for most Javanese people the temperature feels cold.

For those of you who stay in Yogyakarta, you can come to Dieng plateau by leaving early. In order to be able to visit tourist attractions in the Dieng plateau. Approximately 3.5 hours of travel from Yogyakarta to Dieng plateau. Thank you and happy holiday!
