Some time ago I was contacted by Ana and Jorge. A Spanish couples of tourists who were going to visit Yogyakarta. On the recommendation of Clara, a Spanish teacher and YouTuber who lives in Bali, Indonesia. With a happy feeling, I immediately replied to Ana’s WhatsApp message. After determining the time and price, we agreed to do a sunrise tour at Setumbu Hill and visit the temples on October 7, 2025.

I picked them up at 3:30 a.m. at the Puri Pangeran Yogyakarta hotel and traveled for about 1 hour to arrive at Setumbu Hill. As usual, I always arrive early to ensure all preparations are good. Coincidentally, that morning the weather was clear, stars and a bright moon were visible.
After buying tickets, they immediately climbed Puntuk Setumbu Hill to watch the sunrise with Borobudur Temple in the background. After being satisfied with witnessing the beauty of Borobudur Temple from the top of the hill, we immediately headed to Mendut Temple which is not too far from Borobudur Temple. Coincidentally, at that time, Mendut Temple was being renovated to clean the temple stones, so they only saw Mendut Temple from outside the fence.
Because our visit time at Borobudur Temple was session 1, and we still had a long time, I suggested they enter the Buddhist monastery next to Mendut Temple. In front of Mendut Temple, there is a food stall that provides delicious and cheap local dishes. I invited Ana and Jorge to try it and have breakfast there. They agreed and really enjoyed breakfast while seeing Mendut Temple directly.
Cheap breakfast with an expensive view
It was an expensive sight but rarely done by tourists (maybe it was just me, the driver who invited his guests to eat on the roadside with a local menu). After finishing breakfast with a view of the temple, we immediately headed to Borobudur Temple to join the tour session 1. Here I just waited for them at the local kios or stall in the Borobudur market that sold various kinds of souvenirs.
After being satisfied with witnessing the beauty of Borobudur Temple, we continued the journey together to Prambanan Temple. It took about 1.5 hours to reach Prambanan Temple. I took a shortcut road and also wanted to introduce them to the snake fruit tree. We stopped in the Sleman area where there is a vast snake fruit plantation. It was their first time seeing and eating snake fruit.

We continued our journey to Prambanan Temple. A few minutes later, we arrived at Prambanan Temple. After buying entrance tickets, they immediately headed into the Prambanan Temple complex. Prambanan Temple was our last destination because they would continue their journey to Semarang. The next day, they would continue their journey to Kalimantan to see orangutans. Around 4 pm, I took them to the Daytrans travel office to continue their journey to Semarang. That’s my story about the temple and sunrise tour with Spanish couples. I hope it’s useful, thanks.
