But we can not do all that because of the latest regulations from management. As another alternative we can see the sunrise from the Puntuk Setumbu hill which is located to the west of the Borobudur temple. From the hill we can see the sunrise with a view of the Borobudur temple and Mount Merapi. Apart from this hill, we can also watch the sunrise from Barade Hill which is not far from Puntuk Setumbu.
If you stay in Yogyakarta, then you can start your journey around 3.30 or 4 am and it takes about 45 minutes drive. From the entrance you will climb the stairs and walk about 20 minutes to reach the top. For easier and more efficient time, you can stay at a hotel around Borobudur temple.

Always be careful when climbing stairs on the hill, even if there are lots of lights.
